On per capita income, the state is one of the leading states & on literacy level also it has trumped-up real hastily progress as there is partly 100 % gross enrolment at the elementary level. Although enrolment in colleges & universities drops down to 18 % but still it is on higher side of national average of 12 %. Besides above engineering colleges which come under the purview of department of technical education, there is another institute called UIIT which operates under the banner of HP University & holds its individual test for admission to its various engineering courses. However admission to all other engineering colleges is carried out on the basis of student ' s AIEEE rank & a common counseling is held by the DTE - HP.
In addition, there are about six private universities which impart technical education in various stream of engineering & imparts direct admission to the students.
