As students select courses for their high school careers they much center on the classes that are game to be the easiest for them to complete. While this strategy may be used to avoid work by some students, it is besides used to tally work loads for other students who are taking college passageway courses. Biology is the study of life forms. It includes innumerable topics that gamut between gross chemistry and food webs. Biology can be a fun course if the student is interested in lab work and field trips. Biology is usually a required course in high school if a student is interested in going to college or medical trade school.
The Study of Geology
Geology is the study of the physical characteristics of the earth. It includes a wide array of topics include meteorology, paleontology, geophysics and earth science. Students in high school are usually offered the choice between earth science and geology, with earth science being an introductory course and geology being a more challenging course. Geology classes will involve field trips and the identification of geological formations and rock types.
Student Opinion of Biology
The perception of how difficult or easy a course is depends greatly on the students interests, skills and sensibilities. Students that enjoy finding out how things work, that have an interest in plants and / or animals and that like classifying or sorting things will generally enjoy biology. However, students that do not like to get dirty, who have weak stomachs or who have problems memorizing terms and concepts may not appreciate this class.
Most students are going to enjoy biology class because of all the field trips that are taken. Students also like the experiments that are completed and the structure of the class. On the other hand, many students do not like dissecting animals and dealing with the clean up work that comes along with learning in a lab setting.
Student Opinion of Geology
The perception of how difficult geology is really is based on what each student thinks is hard or easy. This class can be very difficult for students who are not willing to put in extra efforts to learn how to identify rock types and geological formations. There is a lot of memorization that is required in this class. However, there are also a lot of fun activities involved like taking field trips to local geological formations, collecting rocks and minerals and completing experiments on rock and mineral samples.
Some students that struggle in other courses find that geology is a better fit for them academically. Students that enjoy this class usually enjoy being outside and exploring rough terrain. Students that do not enjoy this class are students that prefer lab work as opposed to field work and that generally prefer inactive fields of study.
